“I’ve been waiting for this record to come out for years, ever since I saw this band open for The Casket Lottery reunion show in San Diego. The album is exactly what I hoped it would be—an irreverent collection straddling the “post” of “post-hardcore.” Songs like “Enter Skramz Band” are what At The Drive-In probably would have sounded like if they hadn’t veered into a more commercial direction (no judgment, that shit was tight too). That clean edge dissipates at times to bring out some more chaotic and urgent Ten Grand-like shapes. Overall, this is one of the best new records I’ve heard in years. If this band breaks up instead of making new music, I will riot.” –Theresa W.

PROUD BOY
Deadhead combat vet says a spell when you come
He knows those caves you Boys are Proud to be from
He spits hieroglyphics, what’s this in his eyes?
They’re blinking sideways, why, they’ve turned to tie-dye
Howling a Name You forgot That you Knew
Wrath swift, so Savage, Sticks that Magick in you
Me and Deadhead, we know magic
Me and Deadhead, we know magic
Me and Deadhead, we know magic
We do a “pull a bloody proud boy out a hat” trick
Deadhead folds you ‘til you fit in his mouth
Crosses river Styxes and spits you right out
We let you think
You went in sleep
You went in peace
Into eternity
But you are in for a
Real rude awakening
And You-Know-Who
Is coming chain a-shaking
who do you know it’s me you know who
Proud Boy, you've been sleeping too long
I come lick your face and wake you up again
I’ve been assigned to remind you what a nasty boy you been
I let you sleep a thousand years and just when you’ve forgotten
I come lick your face some more and I wake you up again
Oh, those eyes go wide each time I lick that face awake
You gone and picked the Wrong goddess to violate
When you go to your Gods and ask
All they know how to do is look and laugh
I’ve got one that talks right back
When you’ve got a goddess like mine
It’s not easy to describe
Don’t even try to try
Bright black fangs
Lips pitch white
Screaming 3D TV screens for eyes
Mouth of drones
Gown of wreckage
Crown of chrome
Fascist bones on her necklace
Jaws-o’-wrath
Horns-o’-plenty
Hear her purr, worship her excellency
Me and Deadhead we know magic
We do a pull a bloody Proud Boy out-
Deadhead heard that there’s a shirt those Boys wear
They want someone to come and try something right there
But Deadhead’s slick, he know a trick he can try
And he come a-punishin’ each one of ‘em in the bloody broad daylight
Proud to be the color of meat gone rotten
Rich lineage of drinking blood in the darkness
PRESERVING THAT NEANDERTHAL-NESS
you Proud Boys love your history
But your big heads always forgetting
Last time you came out those caves swinging
We gave you a real good history lesson
Oh but there are Panthers comin’
And we’re all going Wild Huntin’ again
Yeah the Wild Hunt’s comin’
All you cave boys are gettin it again
Been following Somos for many years, feeling that they had an opus in them...well, here it is. Driving pop-punk sensibilities lend an upbeat tone in contrast to the grim lyrical proceedings, and they absolutely pull it off. Evocative music that's been on repeat for me all month long. RIP, Phil PaintedDogs
Fans of Polvo, take note! The excellent Kansas City band Abandoncy has the same fondness for corkscrewing riffs & melodies. It’s great! Bandcamp New & Notable Feb 28, 2022
Kansas City trio Flooding draw out the more mystical qualities of slowcore and noise rock for a heavy sound that's less stony than doom. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 26, 2023
